Q. Why can't reference books be borrowed from the library?

Course textbooks, etc.

Answer

Traditionally, most reference books, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, and handbooks, are limited to in-library use to ensure their availability to all students, faculty, and staff.  Exceptions are sometimes available with a note from a faculty member or a faculty request.  Current course textbooks are also limited to in-library use to ensure that all students enrolled in a course have access to textbooks on reserve.  Again, exceptions are sometimes available with a note from a faculty member or a faculty request.  A copier is available in the library to copy brief sections of reference and reserve textbooks, as necessary.
